The original creators of the famous frozen dessert company Ben & Jerry's has stated that corporate owner the multinational conglomerate stopped the introduction of an innovative Palestine-themed frozen dessert product.

Ben Cohen, that established the company alongside his partner, disclosed that he will personally create the controversial product as part of a personal series highlighting issues Ben & Jerry's was barred from addressing publicly.

Longstanding Dispute Involving Creators and Corporate Owner

The recent announcement intensifies the ongoing disagreement between the internationally recognized ice cream maker with Unilever, the UK-based packaged goods giant that has owned the ice cream brand since 2000.

Both founders maintain how Unilever along with their ice cream division Magnum unlawfully blocked Ben & Jerry's from "fulfilling its ethical commitments".

The Fruit Sorbet as an Emblem of Solidarity

The entrepreneur revealed through an Instagram video how he is creating a new watermelon-based frozen dessert, asking for public suggestions for the product's name plus additional components.

“I'm accomplishing what they were prevented from doing,” the founder declared from his kitchen. “I'm creating a watermelon-flavored frozen dessert that calls for lasting ceasefire in Palestine and calls for addressing the harm that was done there.”

The watermelon has emerged as an emblem of solidarity with Palestinians because of its colors, that mirror the colors in Palestine's national banner – red, green, black and white.

Historical Social Engagement plus Recent Changes

In 2021, the ice cream company ceased sales of its products in areas occupied by Israel, leading to Unilever selling their Israel business to a local licensee, thereby permitting continued sales within disputed territories.

This upcoming product line will be created through Ben's Best, the activist dessert company which was first created in 2016 for endorsing former political contender Bernie Sanders with the product "Bernie's Return".

Management Changes and Upcoming Plans

Mr. Cohen revealed how he plans to create other ice cream flavors that address concerns which Ben & Jerry's was prevented from speaking about openly by corporate restrictions.

The announcement follows partner Jerry Greenfield stepped down his position at the company in September, after many years with the organization, citing worries regarding how its independence had been compromised after corporate moves to restrict its social activism.

At that time, Mr. Cohen remarked that "Jerry has a really big heart and the ongoing dispute with our parent company was deeply distressing him."

"My heart leads me to continue to work within the organization to fight for its independence so that the company can actualise its ethical purpose, the principles that established its foundation and has maintained for decades," he explained to journalists.
