The buzz about this year's gaming ceremony was significant, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a strange statue. The secret is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is working on a completely new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.
Not the Expected Sequel
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian warned that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This distinction hints that the team might be building a faster-paced experience as opposed to another tactical title. For now, this is speculation, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it pioneered the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, branching plots, and deep class systems—qualities that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities you can achieve with a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also wonderfully permissive, enabling players to experiment both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be approached in diverse methods, sometimes in unexpected fashion.
- You might find an answer because you recalled something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a inventive way.
More to Come
It is precisely these elements that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, players can get ready for another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
