The American champion Assured of Being 'in a good place' for Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics

Legendary skier Lindsey Vonn states she will be "in an excellent position" for the upcoming Winter Olympics, on the back of claiming a top-three finish for the fourth time in five World Cup events.

The 41-year-old, who achieved a milestone by becoming the oldest downhill World Cup winner, finished third in the super-G in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This was her 142nd career World Cup top-three result.

Strong Return in the French Alps

Returning to the French Alps resort for the first time in eight years, Vonn finished the course in a time of 1:20.60. She was 0.36 seconds behind victor Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking the runner-up spot.

"I didn't quite have the right line on the initial jump," the skier commented. "From that point on, I skied well. I'm happy with my run today, in contrast to in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was not aggressive enough."

This performance was her second podium at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also taken third in the downhill on Saturday.

An Incredible Return from Retirement

Vonn stepped away from competition in early 2019 due to ongoing knee problems. However, she made a stunning return in December 2024 following a partial knee replacement.

With 47 days remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are set to run from February 6th to the 22nd, Vonn's performances are timely.

She already possesses one gold and two bronze medals from previous Games and is strongly positioned to compete for the United States at the 2026 Games.

"In Cortina, I will be in a good place," Vonn affirmed.

Aiming for Further Glory

Alongside her Games aspirations, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four overall crystal globes she has won over a career spanning two decades.

She currently holds a substantial lead at the top of the overall downhill standings and is sitting in fifth place in the super-G World Cup table.

This season's World Cup circuit features a total of nine races scheduled before the season finals in Norway on March 21st, 2026.
