Radiohead Fans Express Overwhelming Excitement for Historic Performance in Seven Years

As the sun prepared to rise over the Spanish capital, one eager fan claimed a ideal location in front of the city's massive arena. He stood with the earliest devotees to appear at the site, overflowing with hopes for the British band's return to the stage in almost a decade, starting a multi-city tour across Europe.

"My excitement is through the roof. Like, I don't think this moment has arrived," shared the fan, who had travelled from his home country. "After such a lengthy hiatus, even were they sing the same song repeatedly, I'll be thrilled."

The hours passed quickly as concertgoers plotted where to stand in front of the round platform, and celebrated the fact that they were among the fortunate ones who had scored tickets for a tour that had sold out in record time.

Controversy and Fan Reactions

The situation in Gaza was another topic that had come up throughout the day, considering the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel had urged on people to avoid the concerts, referencing band member a member's previous show in Israel.

This issue appears to be sensitive for the artists; following earlier coverage about the protest appeal, journalists were denied from getting tickets to report on the opening night. On that evening, the band did not respond to a inquiry regarding the decision.

Band's Response

"It's possible there won't be future chance, the group has aged at this point," said a young fan, in his twenties, causing laughter from those queuing up with him. "Hence it was absolutely justified to come here and experience this time."

In the vicinity stood an attendee, who had arrived luggage in hand after taking a daybreak rail from the coastal town.

The previous occasion the fan had seen Radiohead was 22 years ago. This time, he had reached at the site many hours before the concert was scheduled to begin, sure that he would be the first in line.

Instead he found himself confronted by the fact that a younger crowd – one that seemed comfortable with dawn arrivals or waiting – had developed a passion for the group's "evolved, elaborate, soul-touching" songs. "I was surprised to encounter all these teenagers here," he said with a smile. "What a nuisance, I thought I would be first in line because older people don't do such activities. But at present my position is later."

After four nights in the Spanish capital, the band's journey will proceed to the Italian city, London, the Danish city and the European nation, concluding on 12 December.
