Over two thousand Trafficked Young People and Lone Minor Refugee Applicants Lost from UK Local Authorities’ Care

Per public records data, over two thousand minors who were either exploited or arrived in the UK unaccompanied to claim asylum went missing from protective services last year.

A report titled “Until Harm Ends” filed FoI requests to youth protection agencies across the UK nations.

Figures from one hundred thirty-five government bodies revealed that out of 2,335 young people classified as having been victimized or potentially exploited, 864 (37%) were recorded as vanished.

A total of 141 local authorities responded to inquiries about solo young asylum applicants in their care, who totaled eleven thousand nine hundred ninety-nine young people. Of these, 1,501 (13%) were listed as disappeared.

Lodging Concerns

However, youths in their late teens can still be housed in so-called “supported accommodation” that does not provide day-to-day care.
