Manchester City's manager Expresses Regret Over Broadcast Crew Altercation Following Defeat to Magpies

Pep Guardiola has admitted experiencing "embarrassment" after a confrontation with a camera operator in the wake of the Citizens' loss away to the Magpies this past weekend.

When the match concluded, a visibly upset Guardiola entered the St James’ Park pitch and had heated discussions with match official Sam Barrott and Magpies midfielder Bruno Guimarães, and also touched the headphones of the camera operator.

"I said sorry," the manager remarked. "I'm humiliated, regretful, when I see it. It's not acceptable. I apologised after one second to the operator. That's just me. After 1,000 games I'm far from perfect, errors happen."

"One thing is certain, I stand by my team and club, without a doubt. The reason why I support my squad is no doubt – because from my experience to clinch the title we need near-perfect totals, 98 points, otherwise we don’t win it."

City's Position and Manager's Take

The team sits in third and trail leaders Arsenal by seven points following their fourth loss this campaign. "Losing four games out of 12 means we must do better," he conceded. "Mathematically, it’s possible to win everything."

The manager was asked if this meant the quadruple was a realistic aim, he responded: "As a seasoned reporter, did you hear my talk discuss four trophies last winter when we won the quadruple? Never."

Exchange with Bruno

Regarding his confrontation with the Newcastle player, Guardiola said: "We have known Bruno for many years and every time after the game, home or away, we converse. We often meet and we get along well. I enjoy it. I’m an emotional guy, I love to talk and move my hands."

He wouldn't mind should a rival coach spoke to his players right after the final whistle. "Not if it's respectful like I always have done, it’s not a problem," he said, mentioning the referee. "The referee was involved for 95 minutes, 98 minutes, constantly. My God, very much so."

Debatable Calls

The team felt aggrieved that the officials denied a spot-kick on a Schär tackle against Foden, and doubted Bruno's positioning when Harvey Barnes scored the decisive strike. Pictures published later show he was level.

Next Big Match

He will manage of his 100th Champions League game against Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday. "That's impressive, it means that every season annually," he commented.

City have 10 points from four matches in the group, and Leverkusen hold five.
