Finn had a key role in the acclaimed TV show "The Middle".

American performer Pat Finn, who appeared in popular TV shows including Friends, Seinfeld and "The Middle", has passed away at the age of 60.

The comedic improv actor passed away at his residence in LA on Monday after undergoing treatment for a cancer diagnosis since 2022, per media reports.

"Pat never met a stranger - just potential friends he hadn't encountered," his loved ones stated in a message.

They continued that he had "embraced life completely - with happiness and energy".

An Extensive Career on Screen

His initial on-screen part was on the George Wendt Show in the mid-90s, where he portrayed the brother of the main character.

He also had a recurring role on "Murphy Brown" from 1995 to 1997.

He played the part of a party host named Joe Mayo in the show Seinfeld in 1998, portraying a party host known to delegate unpleasant chores to his guests.

In the 90s and 2000s, he made guest appearances on numerous well-known programs, including:

  • "King of Queens"
  • Friends
  • That '70s Show
  • "House"

He was most recognized for portraying Bill Norwood in The Middle, appearing throughout eight seasons from 2011 to 2018.

His film credits are "It's Complicated" and Santa Paws 2: The Santa Pups.

Beyond the Screen

Outside of his on-screen roles, Finn was a skilled improviser and worked as a teacher at the University of Colorado, where he was a professor.

He was involved with a six-person improv troupe named Beer Shark Mice.

"Finn taught, supported, and inspired numerous pupils over the years and it would be difficult to find a person anywhere who has anything negative to say about him," his family wrote.

Paying homage, colleague and actor Richard Kind remarked there was "no kinder, gentler, funnier, grounded individual you could encounter".

"Perpetually optimistic, assisting others to improve and be funnier. A great dad, a great guy," Kind wrote online.

Finn is survived by his partner Donna, his children, and his mother, father, and brothers/sisters.
