Armed assailants have taken the life of an instructor and kidnapped no fewer than 25 pupils in an assault against a female high school in Nigeria's northwestern region, authorities have confirmed.

The armed faction stormed the comprehensive secondary school for girls in Maga, Kebbi State at around 4 AM local time on Monday, officials stated.

The assailants "exchanged fire with security forces on duty in a shootout" before scaling the perimeter fence and seizing the students from their hostel, according to a statement.
