A Tribute to Strength: Lessons to Learn from the Splendour of Accra's Cultural Festival.

A Look Inside the Cultural Week

Visiting the showcases, installations and acts of the festival, one sees how exceptional art nourishes and constructs a nation's heritage and essence. The focal point was certainly Clottey's remarkable a profound exploration of ritual and time, which displayed his innovative afrogallonism in full view: a concept that transforms water vessels into illusory creations, assemblages of golden hues. The display was designed as a homage to the endurance of the historic district, a historical area of Accra.

However experiencing this venue, it's hard to ignore the heaps of discarded clothing that mar the charm and serenity of the shoreline.

Apart from the Centrepiece

There is additional highlights. Within an unfinished structure at the local university, creator Sylvester showcased a deeply moving minimalist collection, an emotionally powerful, minimalist exhibition that displayed sculptures and canvases produced in partnership with artisans.

Also featured was the prestigious art award for women artists of Ghanaian origin. It included the first solo show of a 2024 laureate, whose work draws on personal family archives to produce a visual impression of life in Ghana after independence. The event also crowned a current winner, whose diverse work is particularly focused on the textile traditions of women in a specific region.

While the diaspora has more and more been pulled back to the region during the western winter, an increasing number are contemplating visiting for the cultural season to immerse themselves in the region’s cultural season.
